Makeup On The Go: Pack Your Perfect Travel Makeup Bag
Anyone who wears makeup on a daily basis knows how tricky it can be to make it look flawless throughout the day. Not to mention if you have to travel and spend a night or two at a place that sadly does not have your vanity with endless drawers of products to choose from. What to do? Easy - pick up a few products that will make your touch-ups quick and effective, and thus will turn your travel makeup bag into the ultimate saviour of your impeccable day-to-day style.
Whether you just need a few pick-me-ups for the day, or you’re packing your overhead suitcase for a business trip, we’re here to help.
Out And About
Less is always more when it comes to arranging your daily makeup bag. You’ll never end up using everything that’s in it, but at the same time you should not be caught off guard when your look needs a little touch-up. Most days you’ll probably be just fine with a concealer, a compact powder, and whatever lip product you might have put on in the morning.
Some lipsticks were designed specifically so that they can be used easily while you don’t have much time or patience. One such lip product is the Guerlain Shine Automatique lipstick which can be operated with just one hand thanks to a sliding button which makes the tube open and close. Practicality in general should be your primary concern, but that certainly doesn’t mean you should compromise on quality. Fairly recently, Clinique have broadened their range of Chubby Stick products, which means that now you can buy not only a classic Chubby Stick tinted lip balm, but also its intense version, or an eyeshadow stick and a blusher in the same packaging.
As far as concealers go, stick to the ones that are easy to apply and last a long time. The Estéle Lauder Double Wear concealer will be a perfect choice. As an alternative, we have a hot tip for spot concealing on the go: Before you leave the house, take a retractable lip brush, make sure it’s clean, pick up a bit of concealer with it, close it and throw it in your makeup bag. Now it’s ready to be used whenever you need, and you can conceal your spots with precision and without any unnecessary mess. Another good idea is an illuminating pen that will hide your dark circles and brighten up your face when you feel like that’s what you need. You don’t have to go for the classic YSL Touche Éclat, there are similar options like the Chanel Éclat Lumiere pen.
If your skin is generally on the oilier side, you could most definitely make use of some blotting papers, for example the Shiseido Pureness Mattifying ones. If those don’t do the trick, use a good compact powder like the Clinique Stay Matte powder and pair it with a retractable powder brush.
Travel friendly makeup generally means products that not only do their job, but also come in a practical packaging that makes them perfect for transport. So, in addition to all the goodies we’ve already mentioned (which definitely deserve a place in your travel makeup collection), you might want to throw in the following:
For your base you can pack a product that works both as a foundation and a concealer, or maybe even one that contains both, like the Lancome Teint Visionnaire foundation and concealer in matching shades. For your bronzer and blusher, choose a multi-tasking Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick with a selection of complementary colours and a gorgeous sheen to make your features stand out. A great alternative would be the Nars Foreplay cheek palette.Speaking of which, the basic product to help you pack light while having everything you need at hand is of course a good makeup palette. If you’re not one for a vast array of options and you’re happy sticking to just a few colours, try the Hawaii palette or the California palette by theBalm. Each of those contains a cheek colour, a highlighter and two eyeshadows. If you want more options to choose from, go for a separate eyeshadow palette such as theBalm’s Nude Dude. While many makeup palettes - this one included - come with their own brush, a proper makeup brush set will obviously make things infinitely easier. Our tip? The Missha brush set includes all the brushes you might need, plus it comes in a practical zip-up pouch which can double as a cosmetic bag.
