Normal hair washing is sometimes not enough to remove all the impurities and residue of styling products... Deep cleansing will help you restore the natural balance of your scalp, returning your hair its lightness and healthy shine. Just try it! How can you carry out this treatment at home and when should you go to the salon for it?

Deep cleansing is one of the key steps to healthy, beautiful and vital hair. Washing with a normal shampoo to remove all the impurities, hair styling products and mineral deposits from hard water is not always enough, which is why you need to include a deep-cleansing shampoo in your hair care routine once in a while. What wonders can it do for your hair and scalp?

"Cleansing hair shampoo will help restore the balance of your scalp and support the overall quality of your hair. It removes accumulated impurities and product residues that weigh hair down and cause dullness and brittleness," explains hairdresser Katka Hamplová from the Klier hairdressing network.

How Often Should You Do At-Home Hair Cleansing

However, deep cleansing your hair is not only a matter of aesthetics, but also of health. Accumulated substances on your hair can irritate your scalp, cause itching and can also contribute to more greasy hair. The right frequency and selection of hair products play an essential role in home deep cleansing of hair.

Independent hairdresser Tibor Němec adds: "Unfortunately, frequent use of deep-cleansing hair products could damage your hair and scalp. I would therefore be careful with them. Ideally, ask your hairdresser for advice." He says normal to oily hair can tolerate deep-cleansing shampoo every two to four weeks. Dry and damaged hair should have this treatment no more than once every eight to ten weeks.

Proven At-Home Hair Cleansing Procedures

Home deep cleansing of hair is always performed in the same way. It starts with the application of a cleansing shampoo that thoroughly washes away product build-up and any impurities. After using it, you can also use a scalp exfoliator, to cleanse your scalp, which will remove dead cells and improve blood circulation. "It's also important to apply a hydrating hair mask or deep-cleansing conditioner to keep hair soft and hydrated," adds Kateřina Hamplová.

At-Home Cleansing vs Hair Salon

The difference between home hair cleansing and a salon treatment lies mainly in the products, which can have a much stronger concentration in a hair salon. However, the actual execution of the hair cleansing also differs. "Hairdressers have the experience and knowledge of how to do deep cleansing properly and can adapt it to each hair type," explains hairdresser Katka Hamplová.

The Main Differences Between Cleansing Hair at Home and in a Salon

  •          Products: In the salon, professional and often more concentrated products are used, while at home you will have a commercially available cleansing shampoo or natural alternative.
  •          Effectiveness: Salon cleansing has a more lasting effect, home cleansing is more like maintenance.
  •          Application: Hairdressers are experienced, so they know how best to work with deep cleansing products.
  •          Cost: Going to a salon is undoubtedly a more expensive investment, while cleansing your hair at home is a more affordable option.

Thus, hair detoxification at home is considered more of a maintenance phase among hairdressers. "Cleansing your hair of silicones and other unwanted substances once in a while at home is definitely fine. However, I would still recommend going to a hair salon about once every two to three months for deep cleansing. The frequency depends on what hair products you use at home, but also, for example, on the hardness of the water you use," explains Kateřina Hamplová.

Why Go to the Trouble of Cleansing Your Hair

Regular deep cleansing of hair not only helps to improve its appearance, but also to promote the health of the scalp. "Clean hair better absorbs nutrients from all applied masks and conditioners which contributes, among other things, to faster and healthier growth, explains hairdresser Tibor Němec. So whether you decide to choose professional hair cleansing in a salon or once in a while you dare to take care of your hair at home, always make sure to choose the right cosmetics and follow the recommended procedures. This is the only way to make your hair healthier, stronger and more beautiful.
