They don’t just make soaps – they create gifts. Castelbel was born from passion, resilience, and a love of craftsmanship. In 1999, Aquiles Barros, a 26-year-old chemistry professor at the University of Porto, took on the challenge of creating a factory to produce luxury scented soaps for an American brand.

The name Castelbel blends their home in Portugal – Castêlo da Maia – with belleza (beauty), reflecting what we strive to create in everything we do. In 2006, they launched our own line of body and home fragrances, followed by the premium Portus Cale range in 2007. While they craft soaps for renowned international brands, the brand’s heart remains in Portugal, drawing inspiration from the Douro Valley’s landscapes, scents, and colours.
