Hello, do you use an SPF sunscreen? Can I see it? You don’t? Why not? I mean, SPF is such a little miracle in a tube. Unfortunately, few people use it properly.

And because we care about you, we’ve decided to address the issue of healthy sun exposure in our MAKE SPF YOUR BFF project. We’ll tell you WHY sunscreens should be part of your everyday skincare routine and advise you on HOW best to use them, WHICH ones work best for you and for WHAT exactly.

If you want your skin to stay youthful (and healthy) for as long as possible, and so does the skin all over your body, you should make SPF the best friend that goes everywhere with you. And not only in summer, when there’s more sunshine and it is more intense, but all year round, even in cloudy weather.

Why SPF sunscreen should be your best friend every day:

  • It helps slow down skin ageing – repeated exposure to sunlight without protection causes damage to elastin, collagen and skin cells. You’ll suffer from prematurely ageing skin, pigment spots and wrinkles.
  • It reduces the risk of skin cancer – did you know that skin cancer is one of the most common types of cancer ever?
  • It evens out skin tone – different types of hyperpigmentation can appear on the skin over your life. Whether that’s melasma, caused by hormonal changes, for example, during pregnancy, or darkened acne scars. SPF sunscreens prevent skin darkening from getting worse.
  • It prevents sunburn – sunburn can cause skin thinning, swelling or itching. If you get really badly burnt, it can lead to blisters, which can accelerate the development of skin cancer. As can repeated burning.
  • It contributes to overall skin health – essential skin proteins (keratin, elastin and collagen) keep the skin healthy and smooth. And using a sunscreen with SPF protects these proteins.
SPF sunscreens you’ll love

Also, get real friends to remind you every few hours that it’s time to apply it again or time to go and sit in the shade for a while. Because, of course, just using lotion alone is not enough. No more “just in the morning and you’re done”.

Start wearing hats and sunglasses whenever you’re out in the sun. And if you don’t like people or you’re going on holiday alone, how about downloading an app on your phone that will prompt you to apply it again? We love the Reapply app. And leave the tan comparisons to others. Because now you know better.

And next time, you can look forward to us discussing the different types of UV rays and how they affect our skin and complexion.
