Protect your sensitive skin against harmful UV rays! Sunscreens with a high UV factor of 30 and 50 give reliable protection against UV rays that don’t just cause skin redness and irritation, but also premature ageing, pigment spots and melanoma.
How effective SPF 50 and SPF 30 are
The SPF value determines how effective a sunscreen is at protecting you against UVB rays:
- SPF 30 filters out up to 97% of UVB radiation.
- SPF 50 up to 98% UVB radiation.
Why is it important to protect my skin with a high UV factor?
Sunburn is one of the main contributors to skin cancer. However, the effect of every time you burn is stored in our skin and the effects can take years to show up. That is why it is important to protect your skin reliably at all times, not only in direct sunlight in summer but all year round. This is because harmful UV radiation reaches the ground even on cloudy days and in the shade, reflects off water and snow and even penetrates glass.
Use SPF 50 and SPF 30 sunscreens to prevent the effects of:
- UVA rays (think A for ageing), which are the main cause of skin ageing and cause wrinkles and pigment spots,
- UVB rays (think B for burning), which are responsible for burning the skin.
Who are SPF 50 and SPF 30 sunscreens suitable for?
Basically, for everyone, but especially for those of us with sun-sensitive skin. They should be used all year round by anyone with phototype I and II, children and people with skin problems. But on summer days, by the sea, in the mountains or at destinations close to the equator, they should be used by everyone.
TIP: For babies, always choose children's sunscreen with SPF 50+ and remember that babies’ sensitive skin should not be exposed to the sun at all.
What is a phototype?
The skin’s phototype determines its sensitivity to sunlight and its overall ability to tan. Skin types are divided into six groups, of which the first two are the most sensitive to the sun’s rays and have the highest risk of developing skin cancer. SPF30 sun cream is also recommended for people with phototype III, as their risk of skin cancer is still high.
- Phototype I has pale skin, light or red hair and freckles. The skin burns easily and does not tan.
- Phototype II has fair skin, blonde or brown hair and blue or brown eyes. The skin burns easily and tans very slowly.
- Phototype III has light brown skin, brown or grey eyes and darker hair. The skin does not burn easily and tans well.
How to choose high SPF sunscreens
Always consider your phototype, age, skin health and where you are (how close you are to the equator) when choosing suncare. Choose a tanning product to suit your skin according to the consistency and method of application:
- SPF 50 and SPF 30 sun oil – easy application and fast absorption, designed mainly for dry and normal skin types, which it nourishes nicely.
- Sun cream – a pleasant consistency that nourishes the skin, ideal for protecting moles and scars, which just need to be covered with a thicker layer of cream. For oily, acne-prone skin, we recommend non-comedogenic sunscreen.
- SPF 30 or 50 sunscreen lotion – a lightweight consistency that can be spread pleasantly on the skin all over the body. Also available as a hydrating, tinted, firming or rejuvenating sun lotion.
- Sunscreen gel with SPF 30 and SPF 50 – has a pleasantly cooling effect, absorbs well and is appreciated especially by oily skin, which is not weighed down unnecessarily.
- SPF 50 and SPF 30 sunscreen – easy to apply and makes it easy to cover the skin all over your whole body several times a day.
- A sunscreen stick or SPF 50 and SPF 30 stick – works as topical sun protection and which you can take with you everywhere thanks to its small size and easily treat your face, ears, neck and neckline.
- Tanning mist SPF 50 and 30 – allows quick application from different angles without the need to blend it in and is also suitable for reapplying during the day over makeup.
- Compact foundation SPF 50 and below – easily covers minor skin imperfections anywhere, any time, whilst protecting your skin against UV rays.
- BB cream SPF 50 – ideal for everyday use on the way to work and in the city. Protects the skin against the sun while also hiding imperfections and evening out skin tone.
When to opt for a SPF 50 or SPF 30 mineral sunscreen
Unlike synthetic filters, physical or mineral SPF products are not absorbed into the skin – instead they remain on the skin’s surface and reflect the sun’s rays like a mirror. You will particularly appreciate them if you have sensitive skin or atopic eczema or are hypersensitive to chemical UV filters. The advantage of mineral sunscreens is that they work immediately upon application. However, some products can leave white marks on the skin.
How to use SPF 50 and SPF 30 sunscreen
Keep in mind that even an SPF 50+ sunscreen is not going to protect your skin 100% against the sun, and proper application and quantity play a major role in the effectiveness of sunscreen.
- Apply the cream in the amount of about 6 teaspoons for the body of an adult and about half a teaspoon for the face and neck.
- Repeat application at least every 2 hours or every time after being in the water.
- Avoid the sun around midday.
More tips for healthy sunbathing
- On the face, use products specifically designed for it to avoid blocking pores. High-quality face sunscreens have a light consistency ideal for application under makeup. During the summer months, we recommend applying a day cream with SPF 50 to the face every day.
- If you want to boost your skin’s ability to tan and keep it tanned, try vitamins for tanning.
- Tan activators also help prepare your skin for sun exposure and help you tan more quickly and easily.
- Don't forget a lip balm with SPF 50 to protect the sensitive skin of your lips against the summer sun.
