When we talk about moisturising, we often forget that we need different methods and products depending on our age. Because age affects the needs and wants of our skin. So how do you moisturise at 20, 30, 40, 50, and beyond 60?

Sweet 20:  Lots of water, lots of sleep

Do your partying and sleepless nights result in a dull, lifeless skin? We’ve all been there. But you do need to make some changes. Your adolescence and your twenties are the perfect time to start preventing future problems by staying hydrated and taking care of your skin so you have no regrets decades later. “Start taking care of your skin from the inside – by drinking enough liquids, eating foods with a high water content and avoiding alcohol and coffee because they can dehydrate your body. Also make sure to get as much sleep as possible!“ recommends Lucie Rajská, Ph.D., senior doctor at the Clinic for preventative dermatology.

What should your skincare routine include?

“At this age, people often tend to skip makeup removal. We as dermatologists then have to deal with unnecessary sediments of dust and smog which cause comedones. Removing your makeup goes a long way in improving the quality of your skin and you can promote hydration while you’re at it” says Lucie Rajská. Which products should you choose?
CeraVe Cleansers cleansing and moisturising emulsion will cleanse your skin without disturbing the protective skin barrier and uses the so-called MVE technology to release hydrating agents, mainly ceramides, over the course of 24 hours.
If you’re still dealing with pimples, try a moisturising gel cleanser for oily and acne-prone skin: Akné Nobilis Tilia. This vegan Czech product contains extracts from cloves, eucalyptus and grapefruit.

Cool at 30: Collagen + retinol needed!

„The natural production of collagen starts to decrease after you turn 25 and after 30 it’s high time you tried replenishing it“ warns the dermatologist. As she points out, „You can choose from a variety of collagen drinks, collagen creams, or products with retinols which stimulate new collagen production in your skin. And of course you should incorporate some hyaluronic acid.”

What should your skincare routine include?

Make sure to use a good eye cream and pamper your skin with moisturising creams, serums and some relaxing time with a hydrating face mask.
All About Eyes™ Rich by Clinique has a moisturising as well as cooling effect, it can handle puffiness and gets rid of dark under-eye circles. Three types of hyaluronic acid in the Korres Greek Yoghurt day cream are paired with yoghurt cultures to promote a healthy natural microbiome of your skin. Filorga Time Filler Mask® are exceptionally lovely sheet masks with collagen. You can also give your skin some retinol in the form of the NeoStrata Correct night serum.

Sexy at 40: Niacinamide revolution

Apart from moisturising and anti-ageing skincare (which often come in the same product), you should also keep your skin radiant and protected from external factors. “You should focus especially on vitamins C and E. Don’t be afraid of thicker creams and find some products with niacinamide – an anti-inflammatory ingredient for acne which also helps retain water in the intercellular spaces” explains the senior doctor at the Clinic for preventative dermatology.

What should your skincare routine include?

Hyaluronic acid is still the order of the day. “After turning 40, you’ve reached the ideal point to start with mesotherapy which provides some unmeshed hyaluronic acid to increase hydration and boost elasticity” says the dermatologist. How to moisturise your skin at home after 40?
Garnier Naturals Vitamin C serum brightens and hydrates your skin by promoting collagen production. Guaranteed results after only 3 days! For deep hydration, apply the Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin E Mask on a regular basis and protect your skin from harmful external factors. Every morning and night, you can also use the Revolution Skincare Niacinamide 15% serum for deep hydration and firming of facial contours. Because it’s about time to work on firmness!

Chic at 50: Got peptides? Know where to get them?

Keep using products with antioxidants, retinol and collagen, and start adding peptides and lipids. “The fat from your face is slowly migrating from your cheeks towards your chin and your skin looks less juicy – so products with lipids (or fats) can really help” recommends Lucie Rajská.

What should your skincare routine include?

Clinique Moisture Surge™ Intense 72H Lipid-Replenishing Hydrator cream contains three kinds of lipids which keep your skin lively and hydrated for hours. It will also make your skin velvety soft to the touch. Another way to enjoy the miracle of peptides is the absolutely luxurious Académie Scientifique de Beauté Vintage Princess Cream N°83 with peptides.
“If you’re thinking about a professional treatment, try having meshed hyaluronic acid applied into your cheeks and perhaps even temples. It increases tissue plumpness and significantly improves saggy contours” says the dermatologist.

Forever 60: The more care, the better

After your 60th birthday, your skin requires lots of lipids, ceramides and peptides. “Everything needs to be taken to the extreme – including the richness of the creams, especially night creams that you can often still feel on your face in the morning” confirms Lucie Rajská. This is a good thing. Your ageing process is in full swing. It means you start seeking out products for age spots. These also have a moisturising potential.

What should your skin-care routine include?

Make sure to invest in a cream designed for your age. L’Oréal Paris Age Specialist 65+ will take care of your skin during the day. And when it comes to hyperpigmentation, you can also get fantastic results from using the unique Eisenberg Pure White Masque Crème Relaxant mask. Twice a week is more than enough. As long as you do it with love...
