Layering is like mixing your own signature drink, but you are working with fragrances instead of flavours. It starts in the shower, continues with a body lotion or oil, and ends with your favourite perfume. The key is to find the best undertone – vanilla, wood or musk, for example – and let it permeate everything you use. This is where the real fun begins!
Fragrances to take you through the day
How to Layer Fragrances Step by Step?
Starting with a blank canvas is a must-have. Choose a shower gel with a delicate, inconspicuous fragrance – vanilla, jasmine or citrus fruits are the ideal first step.
Hydration is king, but it can be fragrant too! Choose a body lotion or body oil with tones that complement your perfume. Citrus perfume? A light orange oil is your new BFF.
- Perfume in the right places
My trick: perfume goes on the pulse points - behind the ears, on the wrist, in the elbow socket. For extra effect, lightly spray into your hair (but not too much, so you don't dry it out).
- Hand cream during the day
If you feel during the day that you can't smell your perfume much anymore, just use a hand cream with the same fragrant base.
- A candle as a sweet dessert
Scented candles don't just create a great atmosphere, they can also be part of your layering! Choose candles with tones that go with your signature style, and let them fill your space. When you come back home, your favourite undertone will surround you to extend the effect of your fragrance.
Why does layering work?
Hydrated skin retains a fragrance longer and the layers release it gradually. Plus, you can create a fragrance that's all your own. When someone asks you what you smell like, just wink and say, "That's me!"
