Named after the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, today’s chypre fragrances are descendants of Coty’s famous Chypre, first of its name and launched in 1917.
Chypre scents are characterised by notes of citrus on the top, labdanum in the heart, and finally oakmoss and musk in the base. To give them a more well-rounded quality, perfumers often add peach or other fruity notes to the mix.
