When to get a training cup?
Between the 4th and 6th month most children start eating baby food, and that’s a wonderful time to also teach them to drink new children’s drinks. Toddler training cups help children get used to drinking independently in the easiest possible manner and to gradually switch to a regular porcelain cup. Most kids can master this at around the 18th month.
Children’s mugs – various types
The volume of the cups is usually between 100 and 350 ml. Smaller volumes are suitable for shorter journeys or for smaller children, while larger mugs are ideal for longer walks and for playing outside. Kids’ tumblers are suitable for water, children’s teas and watered-down fruit juices.
- A baby cup with a teat is meant for the smallest children, most frequently as a cup for babies who just recently started eating baby food. The teat, which resembles a nipple, makes the transition from breastfeeding to drinking other liquids easier.
- A toddler cup with a straw is wonderful for older children who are learning to drink by themselves and can manage the coordination of breathing and sucking. A toddler cup with a spout works in a similar manner.
- A training cup with handles is easier to grab and hold.
- An anti-spill kids’ mug has a special mechanism that allows your child to drink easily without the risk of spillage in any position.
Will you choose a glass, silicone or plastic children’s mug?
Training mugs for children are made exclusively from safe materials.
- A kids’ plastic cup is durable, light-weight and usually also suitable for the dishwasher. It is not suitable for hot beverages, however.
- A silicone baby mug is typically light, soft, durable and can also be used for hot drinks.
- Polypropylene cups have similar characteristics to plastic cups, and they don’t contain BPA.
- Glass toddler cups are easy to clean and don’t absorb odours. Due to their heavier weight and the possibility of breaking, however, they are not suitable as toddler mugs at preschools – kids’ plastic cups are a better solution.
With training mugs, your child will gradually learn to drink like an adult. Choose a kids’ tumbler with a straw or a cup with a spout, and make the time you spend together at the table or outside easier. Take a look as well at children’s water bottles, which are perfect for preschool or trips.
