Body massage brush: For showering and dry brushing
Add a body massage brush to your skincare tools! Body brushing, which can be done on both wet and dry skin, is an easy and affordable ritual that you can do at home.
Both wet and dry brushing are relaxing experiences, acting as a body scrub to remove dead skin cells. They have a positive effect on blood and lymph flow, and can even alleviate the appearance of cellulite!
What is dry brushing and what can it do?
Dry brushing is a form of body exfoliation combined with a skin massage that gets rid of dead skin and brings many other benefits!
- Using a dry body brush helps exfoliate and promote cell renewal. Your skin will be smooth, luminous and better able to absorb skincare products.
- It promotes blood circulation in the skin and stimulates lymph flow.
- It contributes to smooth and firm skin, reducing the visible appearance of cellulite.
- It helps detox your body.
- It reduces the risk of ingrown hairs.
- It relieves muscle tension, induces relaxation and stimulates the body and mind.
Which dry brush for the body should you use?
The most common dry brushes, according to material, are:
- Plastic body brush – it has the advantage of a longer lifespan and is usually used for cleaning the skin rather than exfoliating it. It will come in handy in the shower or bath as a back brush, for example.
- Wooden body brush with natural bristles – environment-friendly and best suited to dry brushing. Softer bristles are recommended for those just starting out or for people with sensitive skin. Harder bristles are ideal for more experienced individuals who are ready for a more intense massage.
More selection tips
-
Back massage brushes with long handles make it easier to access hard-to-reach areas.
-
If you aim to target cellulite, try a cellulite massager with protrusions.
- If you’re more into wet brushing, a shower or bath brush will come in handy for your back and the rest of your body.
- If you’re interested in dry brushing, which has a stronger exfoliating effect, choose a natural body brush designed specifically for dry brushing.
How do you dry brush?
- Dry brushing should be performed on dry skin, preferably before a shower or bath.
- Massage using long, straight movements towards the heart. This means proceeding from your feet to the thighs or from your hands to the shoulders. Use circular movements when massaging the torso, elbows and knees.
- Adjust the intensity of the pressure applied to the brush, depending on the body part being massaged. Apply less pressure when brushing the abdomen, décolletage and other sensitive areas. Brushing should definitely not be painful! Avoid the face, intimate areas and damaged skin.
- Every dry brushing session should be followed by a shower or bath accompanied by moisturising shower gels or shower oils to soothe the skin.
- As a final step, apply a moisturising cream or body oil.
Every dry brushing session should last about 5 minutes and the procedure should be repeated 2 to 3 times a week. Dry brushing can be performed in the morning or evening – it stimulates and boosts energy in the morning and relaxes the body in the evening.
Dry or wet brushing is not suitable for people with skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis.
Tip: A body brush should only ever be used by one person. Always clean the dry brush at least once a week – wash the bristles with mild soap under running water and let the brush dry completely, with the bristles pointing downwards.
