Dark lipsticks are a bit of a makeup bogeyman for many of us. We feel as if we've put too much make-up on and that it's too much for everyday use in the office. But what if I told you that doesn't have to be the case?
A dark burgundy lipstick sometimes intimidates even me, but with this technique I love to pull it out for everyday wear and I get nothing but praise every time. Just dab the MAC Cosmetics Locked Kiss 24h Lipstick gently onto your moist lips (watch out – dry lips are a no-go), and I use my finger or rub my lips together if need be. Lipstick gives the impression of naturally coloured lips and often looks better than any nude lipstick.
You know that feeling when your lipstick smudges gently when you kiss someone? This is it! This has become my favourite hack in recent years, both for photo shoots and filming, and for everyday make-up. I love how a lipstick can create the illusion of fuller lips absolutely painlessly. I used the Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Drama Ink liquid lipstick , which not only has high pigmentation, but more importantly, staying power. I applied it and used a small lip brush to blend my lip edges, creating a superb 3D effect. Simple but effective!
I'm one of those people who totally succumbed to k-pop when I was a teenager, and not just because of the music. Asian make-up techniques are very different from our Western ones and I like to be inspired. In Asia, small cute lips are trendy, so they try to make them as narrow as possible. I've applied the Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Drama Ink lipstick only to the middle of my lips. For more contrast, I used a concealer on the edges of my lips, but it's up to you how you like the final look.
So, bold dark lipsticks aren't such a scary thing after all, right? Be sure to watch the video to see my tips in action. The main thing is not to judge a book by its cover and sometimes a lipstick that looks scary at first glance turns out to be a permanent fixture in our make-up bags.
